“Through them [Affinity4] every time you make a call, you could be giving water to a thirsty child without adding anything else to your budget. Every time you log on the Internet, you would be helping us to reach the world with the same powerful messages that have blessed you.”

This week, we prepared the Affinity4 office for the Christmas season. Garlands were hung and cheer was spread everywhere. And I do mean everywhere. Positivity was overflowing as we decorated holiday cards for wounded and recovering soldiers Tuesday afternoon. The conference room was turned into a winter wonderland to help get us all in the spirit…including hot chocolate and apple cider, Christmas tunes, stockings and more!
The whole company took turns participating and created enlightening messages to help brighten the day of a wounded soldier!! Everyone wanted to have the chance to thank them for supporting and protecting our rights and freedoms.
This is all part of our efforts to help The Wounded Warrior Project continue to provide programs and services to meet the needs of severely injured service members.
Don’t forget, you can help, too! We will be taking monetary donations for the Wounded Warrior Project during our Holiday Promotion running November 15-December 15. Feel free to send in your own Christmas cards and we will forward them on to The Wounded Warrior Project with ours to make sure we all help our military have a wonderful Christmas!
How will you support the military this holiday season?

For too many years to count, my house has been the gathering place for my family’s annual Thanksgiving dinner. This of course means three things: first, I’ll have to actually clean my house on a holiday, second, I get to request my favorite dishes from everyone who comes and best of all, I have a houseful of help cleaning up after our feast! (The latter two of course warrant my sending up extra thanks every year!)
My husband will fry our turkey and make the stuffing and pies. My dad and stepmom will bring ham, butter beans and corn and her famous blueberry crisp. My grandma will bring collards and her yummy potato salad. My stepmom’s parents will bring fresh baked breads from Ukrops. I will do the mashed potatoes, gravy and sweet potatoes. And my daughter will bring….hmmm…I don’t know. Maybe we’ll have her bring drinks this year?
Before we indulge, my grandfather will ask the blessing and we’ll each take a few moments to share some of the things we are thankful for. And this year, like every year before, my list will begin with thanks for my family and the opportunity to have them gather at my house for yet another Thanksgiving dinner!
How will you spend this year’s Thanksgiving?

The Memory Quilt: A Christmas Story for Our Times
Affinity4 Board Member and NPO leader, T.D. Jakes, recently released his newest book, The Memory Quilt. The holidays are filled with excitement, joy, and family, but sometimes they are associated with tough times and hardship. This book is about inspiring and comforting people through the holidays and whatever trials they may come across. Barnes & Noble says “Readers will fall in love with main character Lela Edwards as they journey with her as she arrives at a place in her life where understanding, patience, love and compassion replace annoyance, disappointment, and bitterness.”
Christmas is about celebrating the birth and meaning of Christ. In this book T.D Jakes includes scripture focused on Mary, mother of Jesus, and relates the passages into the story of a grandmother who has suffered many losses, yet by her reading the Bible she is reminded of the many gifts that remain in her life. This is not just a Christmas story or a Christmas novel. The experiences of the characters are realities that we all can relate to and apply to our lives year round. As an author T.D. Jakes has been a steward; successfully ministering through more than twenty books and we wish him well as The Memory Quilt climbs to the best sellers list.
When will you be picking up your copy?

Every day in the fight for freedom and servitude to our country, men and women are injured or even lose their lives. So often we take for granted the sacrifices of our soldiers. They put their safety, their health, and their lives on the line for the well being of others. The Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit organization with the mission of raising awareness and enlisting the publics and for the needs of severely injured service men and women. They provide programs and services to meet the needs of severely injured service members.
This holiday season, Affinity4 has set out to help this worthwhile cause. We, the employees, alongside our customers are writing Christmas cards for these wounded and recovering soldiers. It’s important that we take the time out to really express how much we care; it only takes a few minutes to write out a kind and positive message, but those few word can mean the world to someone else. Learn more.
Also from November 15th to December 15th, Affinity4 will donate $5 to the Wounded Warrior Project on every Affinity4 call center sale of a featured product (i.e. LD, Local, Internet, and Wireless) and $10 for every website sale.
How will you help those in need this holiday season?
How do you plan to support Wounded Warrior Project this holiday season?

Veteran’s Day is that time of year where we honor all that have served. Living in a town full of veterans from many era’s, as well as being the son of a Naval Aviator, it is hard to realize that there is just one day a year given to those who have given so much. Growing up I saw my father deployed multiple times and thankfully saw him come home each time. He gave up baseball games, cookouts, Christmas, birthdays and many more moments in the life of our family so that others could have those moments. He, as I have found with many veterans, has never regretted that decision – the decision to serve.
I, too, have made a decision and I continue to pass it along to my son as well. Never let a veteran or a person in uniform pass without saying “thank you for your service”. The fact that we honor them nationally one day a year does not mean we can honor them locally everyday of the year. So tell them thank you today and continue telling them tomorrow. Happy Veteran’s Day and thank you for all you have done and continue to do!
How do you thank those who have served for our country?
How will you recognize Veteran’s Day?

October is widely known to be Breast cancer awareness month, but now that it is November the question that arises is “what about men’s health?” The month of November has recently been dedicated to raising awareness on men’s health. Just as we supported Mothers, Sisters, and Aunts last month, now we want to give the same support to the men this November. There are many organizations that are devoted to making a difference in the battle to better men’s health. One organization that stands out is Movember.
Founded in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia Movember is a unique organization whose members grow moustaches during the month on November to raise awareness for Men’s health. The men of Movember—the month formerly known as November—start off clean shaven, and grow moustaches all month long, garnering support from friends and family in the form of donations. Also the men wearing mustaches serve as walking billboards for the cause, their new looks open doors for conversation about the cancers affecting men—making the moustache a symbol, much like the pink ribbon is for breast cancer.
Prostate Cancer strikes 1 in 6 men and testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men ages 18 to 35. Movember has raised approximately $47 million globally making it the world’s largest charity event for men. Awareness on men’s health issues have significantly improved with Movember helping to spread message to millions of people around the world. Moustaches throughout history have represented a number of characteristics from manhood to individual style, but now in the month of November wearing a moustache is a method of support.
How will you support Movember?
What cause have you raised awareness for?

Tuesday was Election Day and here in the state of Virginia we were having a gubernatorial election between Republican Bob McDonnell and Democrat Creigh Deeds. This was my first voting experience in Virginia and I must say it was a breeze! It took less than 5 minutes for me to park my car, walk in to the Chrysler Museum and Rock the Vote! Unfortunately, turnout across the state of Virginia was relatively low. CNN.com reported only 40 percent of voters in VA cast ballots on Tuesday. But those that did vote elected Bob McDonnell the 71st governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Republicans swept the state’s top three offices for the first time since 1997. McDonnell won the race with approximately 60% of the vote, with Republicans Cuccinelli and Bolling elected to VA Attorney General and Lieutenant Governor, respectively. I hope you all acted on your right to Rock the Vote Tuesday!
