In honor of National Wear Red Day, during the month of February the employees of Affinity4
held our own “Go Red” day to benefit the American Heart Association. We (employees) all brought in donations to benefit the AHA and the company ordered special “Go Red” shirts that we received to wear that day. That afternoon we had a reception and we all got together and had snacks, drinks and a huge red velvet cake to acknowledge the day and the importance of our contribution. Throughout the whole day we were all in high spirits in our matching t-shirts and the campaign really seemed to bring us together as a team. By the end of the day we had raised over $500 for the American Heart Association.

Last weekend I got a haircut. Normally this isn’t a big event but this time I had ten inches of my hair cut off for Locks of Love. I started growing my hair out over a year ago for my wedding and after the wedding I kept growing it with the intention of donating it.
In order to donate, I had to have ten inches of hair cut off in a ponytail. When I went to the salon it was pretty easy, I told my stylist that I wanted to donate my hair, she put my hair in a ponytail, cut it and that was it. I didn’t have to go to a special salon, I just read the requirements on the website so I knew how it needed to be done. I put the ponytail in a padded envelope, printed out a donor form from the Locks of Love website and mailed it in.
Locks of Love is a nonprofit organization that donates hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under 18 who have any medical condition that results in long term hair loss. Any donated hair has to be at least 10 inches long to make a hairpiece and it can take 6-8 ponytails to make just one hairpiece.
The haircut was a big change, but I like my new hairstyle and it feels good to know that a child somewhere will benefit and all I had to do was cut my hair!

Well it’s about time. As of today, Fidel Castro is no longer the president of Cuba. After coming to power in 1959, Castro resigns due to his health taking a turn for the worse. With this event one can only wonder if things will improve between the US and Cuba. Lots of things have transpired since the failed Bay of Pigs invasion back in 1961, and I can only hope that with Castro’s resignation that Cuba will find its way and become a democratic nation once and for all.
How do you think Castro’s resignation will effect the future?

Also, we will be offering the latest trend in digital phone technology. It’s called Digital Phone Service. Basically your internet connection becomes your phone service connection too. This will also offer long distance, voicemail and crystal clear audio. We’re really excited to be offering that in the next few months.

On February 2 at the Macarthur Center in Norfolk, I met the reigning Ms. Wheelchair Virginia, Buddy Hayes, at the Fashion Show and Tell. The fashion show was put on to share easy and stylish fashion tips for people with different body types including people with disabilities. Ms. Wheelchair Virginia was the special guest model for the evening and spoke to the crowd about the accomplishments of Virginians with disabilities.
Ms. Wheelchair Virginia is a nonprofit organization which educates the public and raises awareness of the abilities and needs of the disability community. Each year a new female is elected to reign as Ms. Wheelchair Virginia and carry out the organization’s mission as well as serve as a role model for others.
